About Grace Place
“To make a home for the homeless, yes, it is a thing that must be good; whatever the world may say, it cannot be wrong.”
- Vincent Van Gough
To provide safe and immediate housing for vulnerable women and children, and show God’s love for guests by meeting tangible and spiritual needs.
That guests may feel loved by God so that they know they are not alone in their crisis.
In 2022, sister’s Shawn Shearin and Dawn Leiro saw the increase of women and children in crisis; escaping domestic violence, sextrafficking, and extreme poverty. Many were living in their cars awaiting placement in a shelter w/ 6+months long waiting lists.
Shawn, with her years of experience as the women’s outreach specialist with Street Life Ministries, and Dawn, a mental health specialist took a step of faith. They joined with friend, Linda, who specializes in work with children, and began to rent a home in Redwood City to be a crisis home for those women and children in need. Trusting God for the finances and residents, they have seen His faithfulness each step of the way. This is Grace Place. Many women and children have called this place home and have experienced hope, healing, and transformed lives

PartnerGrace is exercising kindness and serving others which is the ministry of Grace Place. I feel blessed to partner with Shawn and Dawn in the work of guiding the ladies and children who come our way. My career as a teacher and love of the word has been helpful as we guide our residents to a saving knowledge of Jesus which is our ultimate goal!

Board MemberThe Lord says to take care of those in need and I am grateful to partner with Grace House Initiative in serving women and children who are vulnerable and are in transition. I work in the community as an occupational therapist and have raised 3 sons with my husband. I have been blessed to have what I have needed, especially a place to call home. I am thankful for what God is doing through this ministry!Charles Dancak
Board MemberI have served on short term mission trips to a number of third world countries, and have always had a heart for the needy, poor and vulnerable. I am a hardware engineer and have worked for various Silicon Valley companies.
The Future
This year, we saw the need to open a transitional home where those ready for independent living can live up to 2 years, continuing to have support as they look for permanent housing.
This new house is called “Hudson House,” and God provided volunteers to donate all the furniture and household items! We are thankful for the partnership w/ landlady, and are praying for more local partnerships like this.
